SIR CHRIS HOY VELODROME

A brand new indoor velodrome is being built in Glasgow, Scotland for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Named after Scotland’s most successful Olympian, the 250-meter track is being being built to international standards and will be the fourth of its kind in the United Kingdom (after Manchester, Newport and London).

Check out Cycling Weekly for more photos of how the construction process is coming along.

VELODROME CONSTRUCTION BEGINS IN COLORADO

As one track shuts its doors, another is born. The Boulder Valley Velodrome project broke ground a few days ago in Erie, Colorado and Daily Camera was there to hear from some of the dreamers who are making this a reality.
BOULDER INDOOR CYCLING TO CLOSE DOORS

A very sad week for grassroots track cycling in America as it was announced earlier that Colorado’s indoor wooden velodrome (and mountain bike course) is shutting down. This all comes very suddenly and I wish that I had the opportunity to ride there.

The velodrome at Boulder Indoor Cycling was a 142-meter indoor wooden track and featured local racing almost every Friday night. It was also a popular spot for Colorado cyclists to train during winter months when it was too cold to ride outside. With a mountain bike circuit built into the in-field of the velodrome, the facility attracted all types of riders. We all mourn the loss of such a great community effort.

This Friday, BIC will be liquidating everything that they can and plan to hold one last Friday night race event before shutting down.

BROOKLYN VELODROME FOUND A SUGARDADDY

The New York Times has reported Joshua Rechnitz, a New York resident and cyclist, has donated FORTY MILLION dollars (that’s $40,000,000) to the NYC Parks Department to build an indoor velodrome in Brooklyn. Holy crap! The 115,000 square foot stadium overlooking the Brooklyn Promenade will house a 200-meter track, 2,500 spectator seats and a swell view of lower Manhattan from across the water. I’m really excited on this news and can’t wait to hear more so stay tuned.

Check out New York Times for the full story and thanks to Jason at Affinity Cycles for the heads up. I know you’re super excited about this too.

GIORDANA VELODROME GRAND OPENING

Footage from Rock Hill, SC’s brand new Giordana Velodrome opening ceremony last Saturday. I’m totally stoked to have another velodrome in this country. This will be the venue for the Elite Omnium National Championships later this year.

Thanks to TwoToneATL for the tip!
