Still not too much media coming out of last weekend’s UCI World Cup event in Kazakhstan but this shot pretty much sums it up. Sir Chris Hoy nips Russian challenger Denis Dimitriev to the line in the Sprint final.
P.S. Anyone who looks at this photo and calls it even, take a look at where the front wheels are in contact with the track surface in relation to the finish line. It may be just a few millimeters but that’s how races are won at the velodrome.
Honestly, there is not much coverage floating around of last weekend’s UCI World Cup in Kazakhstan but this highlight reel captures some of the best moments including Chris Hoy’s victory in the Sprint.
Of all the international teams competing, Germany took the most medals with 1 Gold, 2 silver and 5 Bronze (8 total) and are currently leading in the UCI World Cup series. Will they keep that lead with other powerhouse countries like France, Great Britain and Australia hungry for Olympic qualification points? The next UCI World Cup event takes place December 1st through 3rd in Cali, Colombia.
Full results from Astana have been posted at Tissot Timing.
I was seriously trying to find a flyer to post for the UCI Track World Cup taking place this weekend in Astana, Kazakhstan. Well all I could find was these cartoon gerbils jerboa.
&laqou; The jerboa, a small rodent native to the Kazakh steppes, not to be mistaken for the gerbil! These little animals can survive in difficult conditions, have remarkable fast reactions and can achieve speeds of 50 km per hour. »
Uh… cool mascot, guys! Anyway, the first event of the World Cup season starts on Friday (with some qualifying rounds tomorrow). I’ll try to bring you as much coverage as I can but for now, check out the official event website.
I don’t know what I’d do with a musette bag but Il Soigneur has made some brilliant bags out of recycled vinyl banners from the previous Manchester World Cup. Check them out on Urban Hunter.
Finally some media showing up from last weekend’s UCI World Cup at Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing. Even though it seems like none of the top competing countries really sent in their A-teams (except for Canada), I would love to see some EuroSport coverage from the event.
