WORLD CHAMPS - Day 1 Results

Women’s 500m TT
Sandie Clair was so upset when Panarina — last rider to ride, and she was even down in the first lap — stole the victory by less than 3 hundredths of a second.
1 - Olga Panarina (Belarus)
2 - Sandie Clair (France)
3 - Miriam Welte (Germany)

Men’s Team Pursuit
As expected, Australia’s wonder team defended their World Title and they made it look so damn easy!

2 - Russia (Alexey Markov, Evgeny Kovalev, Ivan Kovalev, Alexander Serov)
3 - Great Britain (Steven Burke, Sam Harrison, Peter Kennaugh, Andy Tennant)

Men’s Scratch Race
This race was crazy. Ho Ting Kwok came out of nowhere with a huge attack and left everyone dumbounded.

2 - Elia Viviana (Italy)
3 - Morgan Kniesky (France)

Men’s Team Sprint
The Germans weren’t looking so hot in the final round so the French powerhouse trio took the World Championship title with no problem.

2 - Germany (Rene Enders, Maximilian Levy, Stefan Nimke)
3 - Great Britain (Matt Crampton, Sir Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny)

Track World Champs On Universal Sports

I still haven’t found a FREE live video feed of the UCI Track World Championships but if you’ve got eight bucks, you can watch all the finals sessions from all five days at Universal Sports.

I’ve signed up and I’m watching the Women’s 500m Time Trials right now. There’s no commentator but the video coverage is great and well worth it at only $7.99 for all five days.

SIR CHRIS HOY ON BRITAIN’S TEAM SPRINT

Tomorrow’s Team Sprint contest at the World Championships is going to be one of the most exciting events of the entire 5 days. Great Britain have been trying to get back on top of the event ever since the 2008 Olympics and tomorrow they will be faced with some very stiff copmetition coming from the reigning World Champs of Germany and France’s excellent sprint team.

Great Britain were quite disapointed to come in third behind those two teams at the Manchester World Cup last month. Could that have been the motivation they needed to get their act together for the World Championship title and will it be enough? Sir Chris Hoy shares his thoughts on the event in this short interview.
