Tuesday Night Racing - SD's Hidden Gem

Check out this great write-up about the San Diego Velodrome's Tuesday Night Racing series at Nytro.

And don’t forget that the Swami’s San Diego Cup is coming up on August 22nd!

Yesterday, Beaver and I took a trip down to San Diego and visited Velo Cult. They took us to their secret lair where they keep all the real tasty stuff. We spent two and a half hours drooling. Unfortunately, Beaver and I forgot our cameras so all you get is this shitty cell pic.

Afterward, we hopped over to the San Diego Velodrome and raced our asses off. What a great day! We will be returning to SD in the near future.

Ha ha! Oh I love it!

Remember, folks — Tuesday Night Racing at San Diego Velodrome is free to watch and fun for the whole family!

Races In The Northwest

I guess the rainy season is coming to an end because the tracks up North (but not that far North) are starting to get their racing on.

This Saturday at Alpenrose Velodrome in Oregon is the 5th annual Eric Kautzky Memorial Track Race. This is a pretty big annual event so you can expect to see a lot of action there.

Also up at Washington’s Marymoor Velodrome, they’ll be starting up the Friday Night Racing which will go on every week. For riders who still need to cut their teeth (not literally, please), Thursday Night Racing is starting up this week and is designed for new racers.

Meanwhile — for those of us down South (but not that far South) — San Diego Velodrome is starting up their Friday Night Racing this week. Racers who want to qualify for SD Velodrome’s world famous Tuesday Night Racing, need to start with these Friday nights.

On top of all that — weekly Tuesday Night Racing at Hellyer Park and Encino Velodrome are both going strong so if you live on the West Coast you really have no excuse not to come to the track.

I’m digging this GoPro video of a Team Pursuit drill at San Diego Velodrome.

This is actually kind of a cross between a Team Pursuit and a Team Sprint. Two teams start on opposite sides of the track (as in a Team Pursuit) and each rider takes a pull in the front before pulling off of the paceline (as in a Team Sprint). I counted nine riders/laps which would make this a 3 km effort. Nice vid and I like the annotations.

Tuesday Night Racing at San Diego Velodrome!

Every Tuesday night from April to September. 6:30pm at San Diego Velodrome.

SD Velodrome’s awesome Tuesday Night Racing season starts this week! Definitely come check it out. Race or watch. Good times either way.

If you can’t make it down to San Diego, Encino Velodrome also has racing on Tuesday nights at 5:30pm.
