FIXATION TRAILER

I’ve been hyped on this upcoming documentary for a while now. Can’t wait to check it out. Seems to be the all-encompassing fixed gear film. Here’s what the filmmakers have to say about it:

« Fixation is a true life documentary focusing on the thrilling world of single speed cycling. Shot over the course of 12 weeks, Fixation captures, for the first time, the excitement and popularity of this growing sport from all perspectives. With the resurgence of single speed bikes we discover the appeal to having only one gear. Single speeds are the original form of bicycles but technology has come so far, providing multiple speeds for faster and easier riding, yet single speeds, fixed and freewheel continue to have a strong following. The range of riders is vast, from professionals to the casual everyday rider. Their styles and motives are different but the outcome still seems to be the same, the freedom, simplicity and the challenge of having one gear is what brings them back to the basics. We will explore the full spectrum of the lifestyle: Messengers, Olympic Racing, City Riders, Bike Polo, Brakeless, Freestyle and more. Discover the passion, freedom and excitement behind only having one gear… »

CASTING CALL FOR DOCUMENTARY

If you read this blog chances are you have some kind of love for track racing. So here’s your chance to let everybody know what track cycling is really about –- and why it’s so awesome.

Margo Weathers of Supply And Demand is working on a documentary about the track cycling scene on the local level, national level and international level. This FRIDAY AND SATURDAY Margo will be talking to track cyclists in the Los Angeles area and anyone who’s got a passion for track culture. There will be short video interviews and portraits (plus I hear there’s free food!) so if you want to represent then please come by. You’ll get a copy of the portrait for your own use and a chance to be called back for more participation in the film.

She’s looking for the most driven, aggressive and determined cyclists who’ve got something to say and I know that includes each and every one of you. Contact Margo Weathers at bikedoc@supplyanddemand.tv and set up an appointment. Remember, the interviews will be FRIDAY (tomorrow) and SATURDAY in Los Angeles so don’t hesitate! Sorry for the last minute notice!

CAREER COURIER TRAILER

I’ve been following the progress on this film for a while. At first, the project was mainly an autobiographical account from Kenton Hoppas about his experience as a bike messenger. Looks like the vision has gotten much bigger and now features many faces and characters from around the world. I’m really excited to see this doc.

Keep up with the progress of the film here.

1994 World Championships - Graeme Obree Disqualified

If you’ve seen The Flying Scotsman (you should), then you already know how this goes down. I just watched it again last weekend and this event was (heavily) dramatized in the movie. It’s pretty cool to see how it happened in real life.

UCI spends half a day trying to ban the unconventional geometry of Graeme Obree’s Old Faithful. Obree goes so far as to grab a cheap saddle off a child’s mountain bike to meet their regulations. Then the officials just decide to ban Obree’s position.

Can’t this guy catch a break? I mean he broke the World Record TWICE during the previous year’s World Championships.

Oh by the way, did you know that Graeme Obree himself filmed all of the POV riding shots for that movie using a track bike with a video camera mounted on the handlebar? Neither did I until I read this awesome interview with Obree on Bicycle.net. Check it out!
