1931 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SPRINT FINISH

A dramatic charge to the line between Denmark’s Willy Falk-Hansen (left) and France’s Lucien Michard (right). The judges erroneously awarded the victory (and World Champion title) to Falk-Hansen even though we can plainly see that Michard crossed the line first. That dude must’ve been bummed!

A great piece of history found on Erik Wiersma’s Flickr.

Victoria Pendleton vs. Anna Meares

The Melbourne World Cup women’s Match Sprint tournament is already underway. Get instant updates at the Cyclones Twitter.

« Both world champions, both Olympic gold medallists, both the fastest women on two wheels for their respective countries; superficially Anna Meares and Victoria Pendleton have much in common.

The truth, however, is revealed with little more than a scratch: the leading ladies of track cycling are the best of enemies, unlikely to settle their differences any time soon. And they are poised to go head-to-head in the first round of the 2010-11 Track World Cup series starting today (as in RIGHT NOW), the latest instalment in a rivalry that has intensified over the best part of eight years… »

2010 European Champs - Sir Chris Hoy vs. Felix English

So far, this is the only video I can find of Chris Hoy getting his ass handed to him by 18-year old Felix English. The footage starts right on the last lap so we get to see right where Hoy made his big blunder. I bet he’s kicking himself on that one!

Complete results from the European Championships are available here.

1993 World Championships - Men’s Sprint Final

This one is a great Match Sprint between the beastly German Michael Hübner and Australia’s Gary Neiwand. T-Town’s Marty Nothstein also makes an appearance in the semi-final against Hübner.

…and here’s another early 90’s vid:

1993 World Championships - Women’s Sprint Final

Canada’s Tanya Dubnicoff against Ingrid Haringa from the Netherlands.

Sir Chris Hoy was dethroned by Jason Kenny in the British National Championships Match Sprint quarter finals.

Hoy was unable to defend his title and later pulled out of British Nationals entirely due to illness. Jason Kenny went on to defeat Matt Crampton for the National Championship title.

Hey, I know how Hoy feels. It’s never a good day to have a bad day.

1994 UCI World Championships - Women’s Sprint Final

Felicia Ballanger (FRA) vs. Galina Enioukhina (RUS)

So a while back I promised to upload some race videos from the mid-90’s World Championships. So further to my previous post, here’s the 1994 Women’s Sprint Final between defending World Champ Felicia Ballanger and Galina Enioukhina.

Unfortunately here aren’t any real close-up shots of Galina’s bike but there are a couple moments where you can make up the frame bracing at the bottom bracket section. That frame has since been repainted and is now for sale at Superb.

More race videos coming soon!
