What an awesome image.  Guenter Haritz (2nd. from left) winning gold in the Team Pursuit at the 1972 Munich Olympics on a Flema titanium(!) track frame.  Haritz’s coach was skeptical about the titanium frame at first until riding tests had him convinced.

Speedbicycles has a great interview with Fritz Fleck, the innovative German builder who was making the first (probably) titanium race bikes under the Flema brand name.  Read the interview here.
