YOU SPIN ME ROUND

From The Department Of Style:

There is an incredible purity to track cycling. It’s not unlike great design. When you pare everything down, forget the bells, whistles, frills and anything that isn’t absolutely necessary, you are left with a track bike and a perfectly smooth, unobstructed course on which to ride it.

This is what a velodrome represents. Cycing, stripped down to the bare essentials. And it is beautiful. The bikes are works of art, fit to be stared at for lengthy periods, even while at rest.

HACKCYCLING: FCV MISS N OUT SPECIAL

The video coverage of Forest City Velodrome's race scene from Mark Buckaway at Hackcycling has been getting cooler and cooler. On this recent race video from the Miss N Out Special last weekend, we’ve got dual on-bike cameras plus a third camera in the booth capturing the overall view. Mark provides the race commentary along with an audio feed from the announcer’s PA system. On top of that, there’s a heads-up display with speed, cadence, heart rate and power. The result, albeit still a little unpolished, is an all-inclusive race recap.

This is exactly the type of stuff I love to see coming out of the grassroots track racing community.

ANALYSIS OF A SPRINT

Mark Buckaway has been shooting POV track footage up at Forest City Velodrome for a while now. In his latest video, Mark narrates a Match Sprint between him and Jim Morrow.

Since the track is so short — 138 meters, the shortest velodrome in North America — the Match Sprint is five laps long and the sprint is often engaged with two laps to go. Must be pretty crazy to hit those turns at speed — just look how steep those banks are!

Mark cites Victoria Pendleton as his sprinting inspiration. The only diference is Vicky would usually win… except if she’s up against Anna Meares.

Thanks for sharing, Mark!
