ALPENROSE RACING 2011

The Northwest is finally seeing some dry nights so weekly racing at Alpenrose Velodrome is officially heating up. Last night they held a pursuit tournament for Thursday Night Racing. Tonight is sprint night for the weekly Fast Twitch Friday. Juniors and Masters will will also have a weekly race night on Tuesdays starting in June.

On top of all that, there’s all the USAC-sanctioned and annual race events coming up on the Alpenrose calendar. According to Brandon at Crossfix, “It’s shaping up to be an awesome racing season already!”
Damn I miss you, Portland.

Another reel of old Super 8 racing footage from Alpenrose Velodrome in the 70’s. This is coming from the same guy who shared footage of a junior Greg Lemond winning National Championship titles at this track.

This is a long long long video and I’m not saying you should watch the whole thing. I’m just posting it because I love the grainy look of the Super 8 film. It’s got such a mood and atmosphere to it that goes perfectly with the old lugged steel bicycles and spoked wheels that they are racing. Maybe a nice video to project on the wall at your next goldsprints party?

Click here to see who was watching these races in the flesh.

Spectators at Alpenrose Velodrome circa 1971. So good!

Tis the season!

Now that track season is over in the U.S. it’s time to put our velodromes through some other uses.

Found on Tracko.

This race poster is full of so much win, I just had to post it up. The Alpenrose Heartbreaker is going down this Sunday and it’s gonna be fun!
