SEAN MARTIN FOR AFFINITY CYCLES

My friend who runs TOLA and rides for CBNC laments his broken Affinity Lo Pro frame. Good thing he’s getting a brand new Kissena! Sean’s been killing it at the track during my Intro To Track Racing class lately and I hope to see his new frame rolling around the surface of Encino Velodrome soon.

AFFINITY x MISHKA 5 YEARS

So I stopped by Affinity Cycles yesterday on my way to work and saw this beastly looking thing hanging around and I remember thinking “Holy shit, man.” The story from Mishka:

« Мишка is proud to announce a collaboration with Brooklyn’s Affinity Cycles to celebrate their five year anniversary. We met up with Affinity at Project in Las Vegas this year, and decided our own Lamour Supreme was the perfect person to design a Мишка/Affinity bike. Affinity supplied Lamour with five raw Kissena track frames, and he hand painted each frame. He was so excited he did the first one on the tradeshow floor (which you can see in the video above).

The results are five one of a kind pieces celebrating the five years Affinity Cycles have been building gear for the track racer and the street rider alike in NYC. All five custom painted frames are for sale as a complete bikes or as a frame-sets.

A portion of the proceeds from the frames will go to the Kissena Velo Fund, a non-profit project spearheaded by Affinity, currently working to bring a world class indoor 250 meter velodrome to NYC. It’s a great fund that you should support by buying one of these amazing and unique frames, available now. »

While I couldn’t afford buying another bike right now, I still made a nice donation to the Kissena Velo Fund to help revitalize Kissena Velodrome. Support your grassroots track scene!

2012 GEAR GUIDE: AFFINITY CRANKSET

The end of the year is the best time for bike upgrades! For the next few weeks, I’ll feature some of the new products coming out that’ll help you fly around the banks next season.

Affinity Cycles just announced their new fully CNC-machined track cranks and chainrings. These pretty little things come polished in silver or black and pay homage to classic pista cranksets. The best part is somehow they managed to make this crankset completely affordable at $175 for the cranks, chainring and a Truvativ bottom bracket!

Order yours now from the Affinity store and check out more details HERE.

AFFINITY x KENZO MINAMI = DIGITIZER

A CINECYCLE PRODUCTION

Kenzo Minami is an artist and designer who grew up in Japan in the 80’s. During this time, Japan experienced a huge economic boom fueled by the country’s technological supremacy. The graphic design that dominated this era was one that underscored the “more is more” attitude. Japanese design embraced a euphoric idealism of the new digital frontier where design became a fantastic reflection of all technology could be. Kenzo’s inspiration for “Digitizer” came from this nostalgia of his childhood. However, this inspiration is tempered with a practical purpose. “Within the chaos of visual information found on city streets it is important that the design allows the bicycle to stand out and be recognized by both pedestrians and cars alike,” reflects artist Kenzo Minami. “The colors and patterns on the bicycle were carefully conceived and laid out with the understanding that they will not only be seen when the frame and wheels are static but more importantly how they will be transformed when the bicycle is in motion.”

Cinecycle curated this project, with the goal of producing an item of extreme beauty and quality, which explores the intersection of form, function and design. To that end, Cinecycle is proud to have brought together premiere artist Kenzo Minami and Affinity Cycles to create the “Digitizer” project. “Digitizer synthesizes concepts that are fundamental to our culture with regard to how technology can inform and transform our perception of space. Affinity Cycles, Kenzo Minami and Cincecyle have come together to create a project that expresses how the cyclist, even in our modern digital age, still represents the most simple and effective union of man and machine,” says Daniel Leeb, CEO, Cinecycle.
