Ouch!

Busted my rear Campy C Record hub during last night’s session at Encino Velodrome. I was on the approach for a Flying 200, pushing into the sprint with my butt out of the saddle when suddenly — SNAP! — something exploded under me just as I was about to drop to the pole lane. I didn’t go down, I just nervously descended to the apron, slowed to a stop and tipped over because I couldn’t unstrap my pedals.

I thought that it might be a broken spoke but when I looked at the rear wheel, I found that a monster chunk was missing from the non-driveside of my hub. Three of the spokes were dangling, one of which had snapped right at the very tip of the hub end. And of course my rim was way out of wack and jammed against the right chainstay. Wow. Anyone got an extra Campagnolo C Record track hub they don’t need? (Yes, it’s one of those sheriff star hubs that go for hundreds of bucks on Ebay.)

Thanks to Samson for the iPhonography.
