SUMMER RACE SERIES: TEAM DREAM TEAM TRIAL TIME

After much deliberation over all the details, Team Dream Bicycling Team and Ride The Black Line have settled on the perfect event to open the 2013 Summer Race Series at Encino Velodrome.

The Team Dream Team Trial Time will be a night full of Team Pursuits, Team Sprints and a dash of Flying 200’s. This will be an important event in the Summer Race Series because it presents a big opportunity for teams to grab some early points for the Summer Race Series Team Trophy. Take a look at what the each time trial event will be worth on June 26th:

TIME TRIALS (individual and team time trials)
1st place - 10 points per rider
2nd place - 7 points per rider
3rd place - 5 points per rider
4th place - 3 points per rider
5th place - 2 points per rider
6th place - 1 point per rider

What does that mean? That means a four-man Team Pursuit all riding for the same club can grab up to 40 points (44 points with the participation points) for their team and get started with a good lead in the SRS Team Trophy standings. On top of that, since this is the only SRS2013 event in which women race separately and all female racers score DOUBLE POINTS, a three-woman Team Pursuit racing for the same club can pocket up to 60 points (66 including participation points) to get their team started! How awesome is that?

To sweeten the deal, TDBT and RTBL are putting together some great prizes for the fastest riders of the night just to encourage everyone to pedal that much harder.

Predator Cycling has won the SRS Team Trophy for two consecutive years. So start putting your DREAM TEAM together for a night of Team Time Trials and remember that any victorious Team Pursuit or Team Sprint composed of riders in different clubs will have the points distributed accordingly. So choose your teammates wisely and get those points!

PDW 3WRENCHO: TRUE MULTI PURPOSE

I would die for peanut butter. Personally, I prefer Skippy but either way, it’s best served on a peanut butter wrench like Portland Design Works’ trusty 3wrencho — a true trackie favorite.

TON UP WITH DONHOU: EXPERIMENTS IN SPEED

I love this video because it reminds me of this video. Donhou Bicycles recently designed their 100mphbike and they are looking to do the ton.

For the record, motorpaced experiments in speed were first championed by Mile-A-Minute Murphy, a six day racer who exceeded 60 mph by pacing a train in 1899 (he laid plywood boards between the tracks). Years later, the first bike racer to do the ton was Frank Bartell in 1935. He and his pace car hit 100 mph just before winding down from a minute-long effort which averaged out to 80.5 mph. The current motor-paced speed record stands at 167 mph and was set by Fred Rompelberg in 1985.

Still, this Donhou project looks amazing and I can’t wait to see the promised full-length doc. For details on the beautiful Donhou 100mphbike, click HERE.

RED HOOK CRIT: CYCLEANGELO PHOTOS

From everything I’m hearing, it seems like last weekend’s Red Hook Crit at the Brooklyn Navy Yard was INTENSE. The world’s premier track bike criterium became a gnarly ass crash fest but that didn’t get in the way of Cycleangelo grabbing these fantastic shots of the night’s competition. Congrats to all 5 racers who finished (out of a field of 100).
