The Ride Of Silence is a worldwide bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists who have been killed or injured. The annual event intends to raise awareness as well as nurture a sense of solidarity among bike riders. If you have lost someone or know someone who has been injured on a bicycle, it’s important to pay respects and pray that the staggering numbers of cycling fatalities and injuries goes down.
Tonight we will be starting the Intro To Track Racing session with 40 laps around Encino Velodrome ridden in silence as a group to honor our fallen riders. The ride will start promptly at 7pm. Please join us.
This is a teaser for something that’s “coming soon” but I’m too lazy to look up what exactly it is. Just something pretty and sparkly to look at which is aaall good with me.
My friend who runs TOLA and rides for CBNC laments his broken Affinity Lo Pro frame. Good thing he’s getting a brand new Kissena! Sean’s been killing it at the track during my Intro To Track Racing class lately and I hope to see his new frame rolling around the surface of Encino Velodrome soon.
Shaun Wallace sent me his Go Pro footage from the Tuesday Night Races at San Diego Velodrome last week. This is the A-Category Ten-Mile Scratch which makes for a long-winded video. But it’s still a treat to watch such a swift field which includes Junior World Champion Jen Valente, track super star Sarah Hammer and former British Olympian Shaun Wallace (the man behind the camera). For those that can’t stand to watch 24 minutes of racing, fast forward to 20:25 for the final three laps.
The racing down at San Diego Velodrome is absolutely top notch. The racers, organizers and of course the spectators all bring so much energy to the track and always makes me envious that they have such a great scene. Stop by to check out some Tuesday Night Races tonight (or any Tuesday) and don’t miss out on the Saturday Night Lights USAC racing series later this month.
Get ready for The Keirin! This Saturday, the Pro Race Series kicks off with one of the most exciting track races of the year. A quick look at the start list and you can tell things are going to get fast. And don’t forget about the Need For Speed Sprints on Friday night.
Jose Sandoval was on the scene last weekend to capture all the racing at Alpenrose Velodrome as the 2012 track season gets underway in the Northwest. See the rest of the set on Flickr.
